Received a call from this number. I answered just yelling jibberish into the phone. After a few seconds someone answered on the other end.
Claimed to work for Comcast and said that they noticed I have a slow internet connection. Ironically, I do believe that I did as I've been messing around with internet speeds lately. However, it's too much of a coincidence. The individual on the phone did ask for me by my actual name on the Comcast account, which is actually a bit scary because they have your information (or some of it).
At that point I had no interest in playing the account number, social security, birthday game.
The number is a 508 area code. Many of these calls seem to be going out in the Massachusetts area. However, the number is fake which is meant to be believable for those familiar with it.
Unless anyone else can provide an explanation to this, I'm clarifying this as a scam call. I usually don't do anything about these calls but this one was a bit strange to me.
Got a call today. They claimed to be Comcast and wanted to fix my internet speed problem. Told me to call an 844 number or my problem would keep getting worse.
I have received two calls from this number, one today and one yesterday. Yesterday, I didn't answer and they left a shortened message to call 844-482-6747. Today, I answered it. After a pause, someone asked for me by name and said it was Comcast calling. Having read the other responses here yesterday, I said, "This isn't Comcast." He seemed frazzled a bit and paused a second more before asking for me again. I said, "Yes, this is Jeremy." He paused again, stammered something I couldn't quite understand, and ended with, "I will now disconnect the call." It seems to be a scam indeed. What is unfortunate though is that I just joined Comcast less than two months ago. How did they get my info so fast?
I got the same call on Christmas Eve of all days about a weak signal. I told them everything is connected correctly. They asked to book a time and I told them I was going to be away and will have time in late January. I ended up booking the date and hung up. When. I checked the number I got this forum. I did not see the appointment in the Xfinity account I had. Felt strangely scammed as well. They knew my name and everything. I didn't give out any other info other than my availability. Perhaps they are looking for homes where owners are absent over the holidays.
