Sometimes debt collectors are trying to find someone else, and not the person they end up calling. It could be a relative they are trying to find or someone that they mistakenly think is your relative. It could also be someone who has had your number in the past, or they just dial a wrong number. They have called our house trying to reach someone with the same last name as our family, but who we don't know. I told them that the person didn't live at my house, and that we don't know him. Someone else at our house told them something similar.
It would help if certain internet background checks wouldn't list people as relatives who are not related to you.
Charles, I think it might be due to some background sites, like Beenverified, having inaccurate information about relatives. Beenrverfieid lists a certain guy as a relative who is not related to our family, and we don't even know the guy. That's the guy that porfolio calls us trying to reach. I also saw the same erroneous information on another background site. I can't remember the name of that one. My guess is that some debt collectors use cheap and unreliable background sites. If this is the case, they need to stop.
