I received a call at 9:30 asking to support some kind of Peace Association with the police. When I replied no thanks I do all my donating through the Essex County Sheriff's Dept where my father works the guy hung up.
Live person claimed to be calling from the Oakland Police Benefit (or something) telling me they were going to send me some tickets to a show. And if I don't go, they asked for me to return the tickets with a donation so that kids from the Children's Hospital could go. Fishy! I reported them on the National Do Not Call registry.
This guy said he was with Alameda County Sherrif's Benifit. Yeah Right!!
I would never to this type of donation by phone. Too many scams out there people. Walk it into your local red cross..
Mother in law heard the pitch about a Deputy Sheriff from Alameda County calling for a charity. For whatever reason, she did not seem convinced and handed the phone to me. As soon as I said "Hello", they hung up. Very fishy.
This number called my house at 10:45 at night! I don't ever answer unverifiable numbers so typically get several calls until they finally give up. They've called for three days now, but the late night call is the tip-off that it is VERY fishy. I'm glad it has been reported-- it will save me the trouble!
