Same message for the past week.... first it was a male voice on a robo call... this morning is was a real person Jennifer Walker...and as always she stated I have a pending case.
This appears to be a scam. Recorded message says you have a pending case. Press 1. You are then connected to a live person who looks up your name based on your phone number and recites a litany of offenses including "intend to defraud" and taking money illegally with no intention of paying it back. Very aggressive. I hung up after listening for a short time since it was clearly a scam. Call comes from a cell phone and one cannot call the number back.
I received several messages from these people. Stating that between 2008-2010 I had opened an account and it was never paid for a pay day loan. She stated several times she and her company does not send anything in the mail and only confirmation of pay would be via email. I then did some digging, I called the courthouse where they stated Mrp was located, Algona, IA. The courthouse fowarded me to the Police department where I had been told specifically that there is no one in the area as that. Also the voicemail was left my a middle aged white woman, yet when I called the Melissa Williams she portrayed herself to be, was in fact African American. The police department stated that in this situation, should it be real, you will always be served in person with the extensive details and or given certified mail.
Another call this morning. The caller told me that she could NOT send out a copy of the apparent "sworn affidavit" and would not give me a license number. When I said I would pay, she started to put me through to the "billing department" where I could provide social security number and credit card. Became very verbally abusive when I told her that I knew this was a scam. Beware! Is there nothing anyone can do to stop this and get these thieves arrested? It is all very well blocking the number, but that leaves the company is business to scam some other poor victim.
