Same calls. This is not a PBA. It is a total scam. The Police Conference of New York is not a known police organization, nor does it contribute significantly to police charities.
I received a second call from this number with someone claiming to be from the Police Conference of New York looking for me to commit to a pledge over the phone. When I said that my family supports local PBAs and chose not to -- he continued to solicit. I terminated the call.
I looked up the Police Conference of NY and they are headquartered in Albany. The call came from Hewitt (Long Island). I am going to email the PCNY and see if this is a scam. Will post results if I hear back.
This is a scam. Even if the company is a non-profit, it does not mean it donates much of what it takes it. The admin costs are probably very high. The real PBA chapters cannot do anything about this. Albany location, LI calling location if it is not spoofed, the guy keeping on soliciting, and I having received calls from the same outfit using way different numbers all over the state...I rest my case. PBA chapters never call for solicitations. This outfit is self-serving and well, you know...they do well by doing good.
Yes, you are so right. I've also gotten " PBA solicitation" calls from cell phones. I'm so glad that I never donated anything to them. I had no clue what so ever that this is a scam. I didn't answer the phone because I don't know anyone in Hewlett NY or where it is for that matter. I just called the number back and got a recording that said that it wasn't a working number, so it is spoofed. I get a call like this every few months or so it seems. I wish I knew how I ended up on their calling list..
