I get these alot this ph # 516-430-5137 its very annoying to me. they call and dont leave a message. I try calling it back some operator guy's voice said "the cricket number you called is out of service" then how and WHY are they calling me? thanks for the tips I never donate to something or someone that calls ME.
I receive multiple calls a day from wantagh ny & troopers association numbers. I am beyond sick of this and want a resolution. I don't understand how this is legal when you are on the no call registry. This is harassment and is illegal. If I did this to someone I would be slapped with harassment I don't understand how they get away with this and nothing is done! Especially when there are so many others complaining right along with me!!!
It's legal because the Do Not Call Registry does not apply to non-profits. If you request that they take you off their calling list and they do not comply, then you have a case. Have you asked for your phone number to be removed?
The fact that you answer, even through your VM or machine, shows them you are a live number. Turn off your VM and your answering machine. Think about it--if you are away from your phone and you realize that someone you know has called you, don't you generally call them back immediately? So what good is VM, etc.? If you have caller ID and use it alone, they will give up as it will seem to them that your number is part of a business roll-over system that doesn't ever pick up. If you stop confirming that your number belongs to a real person, they'll drop you from the lists that they sell to other scammers/telemarketers. Only call back numbers from people you know. They use STATE TROOP and similar names to frighten you into picking up immediately, as it is common when you get a call like that to think that a family member is hurt.
Another issue--manufacturers of answering machines and sellers of VM (Verizon, for example) have the technology to allow you to block numbers and even area codes. Why don't they let you do it? Road Runner lets you block up to 30 numbers at a time. You are paying for your phone service. Why should weasels and thieves get to use it for free? Especially if you pay for non-listed service. The technology exists to put a stop to this.
