The mystery has been solved! I was home when the call came in tonight from this number. The person identified himself as Bryan from Pima County Fraternal Order of Police. I hung up on him so didn't stick around to hear his "speel." Presumably it was for a donation. I question the name of the organization because in the county the law enforcement agency is the Sheriff's Department and in the city it's the Police Department.
The calls are being made from a computer-run voice recognition "robo-caller." There is no real person on the other end of the line and the voice is computer-generated. It is a machine that is programmed to respond to your inputs. That is why the pauses are long and it keeps asking you to repeat what you just said. I figured it out the last time it called me. Since I do not donate to ANY organization that calls up and asks for money, and it is merely a machine, hanging up is not really rude. If you want to have some fun, just say some random words and see what it says.
The caller asks for the "lady of the house" and when I asked who was calling, said Brian from the Pima County Fraternal Order of Police. I told him I do not make donations to any organization that solicits over the phone & hung up on him. This is the second time this week this number called me.
I looked up the phone number & it said Pima County Fraternal Order of Police. However, I googled that, and there is no listing for Pima County Fraternal Order of Police. There is one for Arizona, and Maricopa County - but not Pima County.
The posting above from "SNOW" is the exact same post for another phone number, supposedly from the same organization.
I received a call around 10am on Aug 17th, 2010. A man's voice asked for the lady of the house and then proceeded to tell me that I had pledged $25 & they sent me 2 notices. I told him that I have never received any notices and asked him what address did he use. He would not answer me. I told him that I never do anything over the phone as he kept insisting that I remit my pledge as it had already been spent. He told me that I could go on line & send the money right away. I will not do this as both my husband and I agreed that this smells fraud 100%.
If this was official, aren't they supposed to say their name on caller ID? FOP? Probably stands for "Frustrated On-line Preditor"
These people seem to have an infinite number of numbers! Reporting thiese clowns has become almost a full time event. Called at 7:37, right "on time." Is there any way to stop them?
