I don't even bother anymore, but if millions of people did maybe we could get some action taken. I can dream, right? It makes me wonder whether the Do Not Call Registry is anything more than window dressing. Oh sure, it keeps Comcast and Walmart and Geico from calling us up, right?
But it doesn't. Those major businesses don't telemarket to people not on the list. For whatever reason they just don't. It's either ineffective or it just pisses off potential customers and so they market in other ways.
It's the unscrupulous fly-by-night scam artists who cannot afford to send out mass mailings or rent billboards or advertise on TV or the internet. Do Not Call means nothing to them.
I am kind of curious. Perhaps I'll answer the next time one of these scammers call because I'm not really sure where they get you. Is it advance fee fraud? Do I have to put some money down in order to secure my "free cruise"? Is it a "free cruise" if you don't count a myriad of nickel and dime fees? Or is it just come aboard, here's your cabin.....and then you get conked on the head and end up a slave somewhere in the hull of an ocean liner?
TANSTAAFL. I just wonder where the "gotcha" part comes in. The only reason for me not to satisfy my curiosity is if I do my phone number will be forever marked as "the one that got away" and they will pursue me even more relentlessly.
