I got a call from someone named “Phil” while waiting for a tech support call so, like a dummy I answered it thinking the person calling was from tech support. Nope! “This is Phil are you there?” was what I heard next.
In previous I read about scammers calling trying to connect your phone number with your voice so they could match you voice with some purchase they were making from your phone. It seems that all you have to say is “yes” when they ask “are you there” and you are had! So, I answered “Phil what can I do for you” and he promptly hung up.
I suspect it is someone other than Caller: Coalition of Police and Sheriffs but another scam instead. Either way, the bums are out there trying their best to part you with your money.
My caller ID showed an Unknown number with no message left. Therefore, that = telemarketers and or scammers. Most of these are "robo calls with spoofed numbers," so reporting them does no good. NEVER give or verify personal, credit card, bank or financial information to ANYONE who makes an unsolicited call to you!!! I "block" these numbers if they keep calling.
Called yesterday. Some recorded codswollop about donating to help law enforcement types. What?!?!? They aren't compensated well enough? I'm sure they do just fine with their civil service pay (with which I have no problem) and the bribes they collect.
Even a legitimate charity, when they call asking for donations the boiler room making the calls gets about 70% of every donation to cover the cost of fund raising. When the name of the charity says the money goes to law enforcement or fire fighting the company making the calls often keeps 90% of every donation.
