Elspeth is telling you about the scam and how it works, there's many other posts with different numbers and/or emails about this here.  They change phone numbers, names and emails like underwear..   Its buyer, renter & seller beware!

This guy did the same thing to me. But I did it a little different, I knew it was a scam right off the bat from craigslist. So I let him send me a check, I cashed it, didn't put anything in the bank or wire it over, just cashed out. So he cant trace anything. The bank never came after me for anything. They are looking for that guy who sent me a fake check.  And he never email me back since that day. I made $2500. And still have the item.  If think of how to scam the scammer, you can. Trust me.

This is very bad advice. That check will come back as fake, but it takes some time. At best, you'll have to pay back your bank, so good luck if you spent that money. At worst, people have been arrested for depositing these fake checks (Clark Howard publicized one of those stories a few years back). Then you have to prove you we're an innocent victim. Also, your bank will charge fees when the fake check finally comes back. Depositing it was extremely stupid and will bite you in the butt.

Just got this message from scammer on craigslist. Putting "( Not Spam)" in there was a nice touch!
