A nice operator took my name, make year and model of my car, and mileage. She then put me through to a "coverage specialist", named Joseph, who said he was a Senior Warranty Advisor. Joseph asked me a few questions and if I wanted to know how much this would cost. I said first that I wanted to know who I was dealing with before I give my personal information. He said he was with "National Auto Protection Corporation", who has been working with Ford since 1976. He then wanted to get me to a 'recording' so he could get my information. I said I needed to know more about his company, and he then started to sound a little contentious, but said they were the same company that did my original warranty with Ford. I said I thought that was directly through Ford, and they said No, they are an auto company, not an insurance company.
I then informed him that I had been wondering who I was dealing with, that I have been trying to be removed from their call list for weeks, when he interrupted me. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING??" he asked, very aggressively. I repeated back, "What the hell am I saying?"?? This is being reported to the FTC. He continued to yell at me as I disconnected the call.
According to my Ford dealership, they do not in fact do business with National Auto Protection Corporation, they do work with outside companies for extended warranties but the original purchase warranty is in fact handled directly through Ford, and they are likely getting your information through the Dept of Motor Vehicles through the FIA.
