Someone with East Indian accent says my computer has a VIRUS. Told him I didn't have a computer. Knew my last name and there was a computer linked to my name.

This time was different, at the same time I got a phone call, a spoofed "ransomware" site suddenly popped up on my computer. A coincidence probably, since I never answer these calls - my CPR cal blocker doe that for me. So the modal webpage takes control of the browser and looks scary, but I drop to the desktop and kill the process from Task Manager - the scammers can't control what they can't see. I run 4 different (all paid, sadly) AV programs, scanned all my docs and drives, nothing found as usual. Keeping my computer and communications secure cost me around 300 bucks so far this year, gonna get worse before it gets better...

Most likely its just a coincidence, but heres some useful information:

Message from Microsoft:
Quote:Remember, Microsoft will never proactively reach out to you to provide unsolicited PC or technical support. Any communication we have with you must be initiated by you.

Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories, so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a legitimate website (such as www.ammyy.com) to install Remote Access software that will let them access your computer to pretend to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information are vulnerable.
Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be from Microsoft and felt it was a scam, you can help us stop these fraudsters by reporting all information about your interaction with them.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/reportascam/

Tech Support Pop Up scam:

Its a "Tech Support scam" Pop Up that you got from visiting a malicious website or was tricked into downloading something that contained the Virus.
Here is a place that can help remove it:

Got password locked out:

You might be able to reset the password with this program, without losing all your data:
Windows Password Refixer and be sure to read the User Guide on the website.
Disclaimer:
I have not personally used this program, so use at your own judgment and be sure to read all the fine print, since it is  Trial software, unless you buy it.
