I received a call from this number stating that I had been awared/approved for a 10,000 Federal Grant. They asked me for my card number and gave me a confirmation number and another number (202) 697-9349 to call and speak with a "Direct Senior Account Manager" to confirm my information. The woman then stated that because my state was not tax free, I would have to make a "charitable donation" to the American Red Cross through Western Union. I then asked why can't they just take the $162 out of my awarded grant money and they said that they could not because it was not taxable. She told me to call her while I was at WU and she"ll stay on the phone with me during the transaction and after I sent the $162 to the American Red Cross, she"ll process my info with the Federal Bank to receive my $10,200 within 25-30 mins. I called the US GOVT GRANT HOTLINE at 1 (800) 333-4636 and the woman I spoke with said that it was a scam. You wouldn't have to make a donation to any charitable organization before being awarded grant funds. She gave me this number to report the scam, 18773824357. It was disappointing to learn that people are really scaming other people like this especially when every one is in search and praying for a little extra. I am a full time student who wants to pay off school loans. I hope they get caught!
