My husband got a pair of workwear (generic carhart) for his birthday, and in the pocket there was a slip of paper that reads... Wal*mart Low Wages, Low Morals always
Sweatshop Laborers, primarily women and children, generally work 60-80 hour per week. Often, the sweatshop environment is unsafe--Workers are harassed, intimidated, forced to work overtime, and made to work in dangerous and unhealthy environments, even while sick. Workers handle toxic chemical paints, solvents, and glues with their bare hands. One large player in the sweatshop industry is discount retailer wal-mart. wal-mart was named "sweatshop retailer of the year" in both 2000 and 2002 by the Toronto-based Maquila Solidarity Network.
