I got a threatening voicemail from a person with an Indian accent (Alex Smith) claiming that there is a lawsuit against me from the IRS and if I do not return his call immediately all he could say was good luck to me as the situation unfolds on me.
I also received a voicemail for this number that I felt was threatening. He said, "If you don't return my call, all I can say is: good luck as the situation unfolds on you." He called back about two hours later. This time I answered the call so I could ask for his "IRS" id (which they always give you when you talk to them). No person was there when I answered, just a playback of the same recording. Creepy for sure.
There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Yep just got the same, call and I called him back and talked to the indian sounding guy. I said "you sound like scam". He said just give me some information and i can prove to you I am with the IRS. Told him, Why don't I just go to my local IRS office and talk to them if there is an issue, can I do that? Then he sounded angry, "Fine you go there, you go there! And you don't waste my time!" click... wow voice mail threats and active verbal anger,, what a joke
This is a scam. Let call go to VM, Indian man stating I must call him back, If I don't call him back then all he can say is good luck to me, I am doomed. Creepy, disturbing and a joke.
The same Indian man from the same 571-290-2017 number just called me and left the same threatening voicemail. Saying he was from the IRS and that there was a "time sensitive lawsuit" filed against me. I called back and gave him a piece of my mind, and he says "If you're going to keep using that language towards me, all I can say is that you are doomed & good luck" and then hung up on me. So since he woke me up, I've been calling him back non-stop to give him a taste of his own medicine, and he finally picked up and said "quit harassing this phone line with your foul language or I will report you to the FBI" LMAO ok [***], I'M reporting YOU as I type! VERY creepy! - My advice, don't answer/worry about the voicemail, or just pick up and cuss him out like I did. =)
