* File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency).
They continue to bother you, tell them you are going to the police to make a complaint of extortion. Go in person to the police and demand that they take a complaint of extortion.
We received a call that sounded like a recording from someone with a rather threatening tone named Richard Blackburn .He said he would give us ( my wife and myself) 24 hours or garnishment, courts and other legal things that I don't really understand , to call him back at a number and so I did. I called him back to try to set up a an amount to send each month but the person said that if I didn't have 300 dollars right now that he was sure that they wouldn't take the amount I offered and quickly hung up without waiting for me to respond.There's something about it that seems rather suspicious and here's the reason why.
Someone came to our door a couple of months ago and said something similar about a medical bill that we had before we had insurance.It turned out to be legitimate and we went down to their local office and set up a low monthly payment with them.But the person who called on the phone was in Michigan...(we're in Nevada) and wouldn't take an offer for a low monthly payment on a much smaller bill than the one we are trying to pay off in Nevada.
Left a voice mail about pending legal action and all that baloney from a man named Richard Blackburn. Said the same thing about garnishing wages, courts, etc. It's a rip off so didn't call them back. Have blocked them from my phone.
I also received a call today from what sounded like an automated recording stating that it was imperative to call back within the next 24 hours or legal matter, wage garnishments, etc. were going to be taken. Gave a "case" number, and to contact Richard Blackburn at 586-353-1729. Funny thing is call came in on 717-943-1268. Hmmm red flag right there. I've been getting scammer calls for months now, just keep blocking them on my phone. This one didn't even say a name at least the other ones try to be slick and leave a name, problem is stating my maiden name which has been over 13 years ago. Good luck on trying to collect on something from that long ago. Best thing is don't answer and seek guidance from a lawyer or reputable financial advisor or debt advisor if in financial trouble. I called my lawyer when I started getting these calls months ago. My lawyers office called them and the scammers never returned the calls. If your in true legal trouble you will get official papers in the mail or a constable to serve them to your front door. Not some idiot calling you to threaten you over the phone. Complete scam.
I just got this same message on my recorder on my home number. I tried calling back and there was no ring or anything. I tried three times and then gave up, Googled the area code and then the entire number and this message popped up! Thank you to all of you for posting! I really thought I did something wrong or forgot to pay something until I read this! The number also came up as unknown but the recording left the name Richard Blackburn and that 586 number to call back ! Scam I say !
