This number called the office last night after hours. There was no message on the answering machine. These alleged charities must be desperate to call both businesses and homes indiscriminately.
Phone rings. I pick up (unrecognized number, always a bad idea, but...business & clients...)
"Susan?"
"Yes..."
"Susan?"
"Yes..."
"Susan?"
(annoyed now) "YES..."
(laughing) "You know, it's just as hard to reach you as it is to get my kids to clean their rooms!" (more laughing)
(confused) "Who's calling, please?"
"...This is Heidi from the United Breast Cancer Foundation..."
CLICK.
I long for the days when we had large, heavy handsets on landline phones and could slam them down in someone's ear.
Someone needs to tell these charities that calling and acting like you know the person you're calling and joking with them - only to have them find out you're telemarketing for some obscure, unknown charity (aka FAKE) is NOT the way to endear them to your cause. It only pisses them off.
Add me to the list. Never got so much of this type of stuff before I moved from Cali to Mi. Now its constant. Think it might be due to the isp/cable/phone number from the cable company AT&T never did that to me.
