Update: Upon further investigation, the number came up as belonging to Foundation for American Veterans. When checking with Charity Navigator, they don't come up at all. Under GreatNonProfits.org they have a 1 star rating out of 5 and that appears to be the case only because you can't rate them with a zero. Huge number of complaints against this organization. According to one reviewer, he is a veteran & found out that only 10 -15% of the money donated actually went to help veterans. Later in the evening, I called the number back & it has been disconnected. These scammer companies hire telemarketers who jump from one local number to another. They know exactly what they need to do to stay within the legal guidelines so they can continue to operate. Please, to all those out there, don't commit to giving anyone money over the phone. If you want to help a favorite group, go to Charity Navigator or Great Non Profits online & do a search on the group or you can run a search by ratings to ensure you are giving to group that is truly dedicated to helping those in need, rather than lining their own pockets.
Not sure how it is in other states but in NH paid charitable fundraisers are required to register with the Attorney Generals office. I checked and this group is, with a home base of Michigan. Personally I would rather make a direct donation to a Vet or local organization than to have it funneled through such a group. Follow this link to check others.

They have called here several times - the last time the woman was insistent that we had pledged money (which we did not). I hung up and have blocked this number - but obviously they don't pay attention to the Do Not Call registry.
