Received the call tonight at about 11:30 p.m. from 608-555-0146. Since I have caller ID display service, didn't even bother to answer. I'm on the no-call list, and this call is in a clear violation of the policies.
Called today - Illinois number. I asked "Hello" several times (I had just spoken to a coworker in Illinois, and thought she was trying my cell phone), and no one ever picked up. Then I saw "565" and realized it was likely a scam.
1/20/15 19:59 PST Second call in less than an hour from out of state (probably out of country). Last one was Missouri, this one said Wisconsin. I am in Calif. Didn't answer either because no ID and numbers not recognized. In both case, went to VM and only message was dead air. I keep reporting these things in hopes that it will help others realize there is no need to answer most of these calls. If it is a legitimate caller, they will leave a message so you can follow up, but the scammers don't ID themselves or leave messages. Please, just don't answer if the number is foreign to you.
"John Smith" (India accent so thick one cannot understand them) said they were trying to correct my telephone listing. Called back 4 times in 3 minutes! Insistent upon getting irrelevant information. So much for just hanging up!
I have received 3 calls today from a Steve with a Indian accent claiming he is with Windows Tech Dept. He gets very angry when I state I am on a do call list and wants to argue with me about my computer needing repairs. He gave me these numbers to call his company to verify he works with Windows. I called 972-591-8183, 608-555-0146 and 201-208-2018. I received two calls back. The same man "Steve" called and asked why I called that number and told me he was with the IRS and if I have something to hide.....not call back. Then the same man "Steve" called AGAIN. He wanted to argue with me and said go ahead and call the police and report them...because the police will tell me I'm wrong! I hung up, and won't answer any calls I'm not familiar with. I wish there was a way to get these people stopped.
It is not uncommon for telemaggoters to use the same number for multiple scams. Ignore calls from unfamiliar sources and consider a call blocking device or app.
