The DO NOT CALL REGISTRY is obsolete. Computers are now calling your phone. Did you notice you have to wait before someone actually chats with you, or did you notice that when this call is on your answering machine they either say hello a few times or just hangs up?
Just received a call from this number minutes ago, as stated by others, no message and when I tried calling, got an automated message if I wanted to opt out of their calling list I should press one. A classic case of spam setups to authenticate active call lists for sale to other creeps later.
Now, as a rule I keep track of all unsolicited calls and have blocked them, as a result these creeps keep switching numbers & Ids to get through which doesn’t work with me ‘cause I block the entire area code and only allow known numbers from the blocked area codes to get through. Relying on the Do Not Call List is nothing but a waste of time, interviews with the director of the system indicates they’re overwhelmed with complaints since VOIPs took over traditional land lines. Meaning, anyone with a computer can assign a number as well as a fictitious Caller Id thus making it a wild goose chase trying to track these calls since most of them are made off shores.
Phone companies could help if they wanted to, but they’re making money off it as the system is, ‘cause they do sell a whole bunch of numbers to their clients so these clients can be switching from number to number making it practically impossible for the recipients of these call to block. This is the reason why these creeps can live outside your calling area and use your area code to call you, ‘cause they knew you couldn’t block your area code, since you would end up blocking friends any families if you did. The only solution is a flexible localized system to combat these idiots. Quit complaining about the viability of the Do Not Call List. Everyone should know by now that it is useless.
Now with respect to 609-526-7974 Power Bill calls, from my record it may be from the same folks who are making calls under the ID Public Service 609-526-7971 Notice the numbers are the same until the last digits, 1 becomes 4 in this case. What this means is these guys are working from an list of numbers purchased from a phone company. But the number 609-526-7971 called with the id Public Service not Power Bill on 10/19/2012. Now if I hadn’t kept a log of these calls I wouldn’t have been able to make the link and treat this call as another unwanted call from the same idiots. Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The following numbers were calls made under the Power Bill ID.
