Just received a call from a guy named tim morino from heckler law office. They knew an awful alot about me but had the wrong address. One that i never lived at but a brother does. Demanded a check that they would post date to give me time to secure the funds. They would not mail anything to me for confirmation of this debt. Thought i cleared up all old debt 2006 but credit report has it pending. They account is from 2002. Had the account number but the opening date wrong. Besides the info in this forum does anyone have any other suggestions for action.

I received a call from this number on my voice mail however as I did not recognize the name on the caller ID, ATTY - PAUL MANN, I did not respond. Turns out Mr. Mann is only a "legal assistant". He then called my sister and left a message like this: "We have an issue that will affect you, Chuck & Jona ____, if you do not return our call for Jeanie B". He also left a message on my sister in law's phone for my nephew in law, stating the same thing. I finally returned his call on 9-5-08 however, when I explained that the phone call would be recorded, he thanked me and hung up. I again called and asked for a fax number, was refused, and also refused on getting a mailing address. When I spoke to
the "manager", Holly Summer, I again explained that the conversation would be recorded, she started "dominating" the conversation by asking why I would record the conversation & when I tried to talk she started yelling that she was being "harassed" and "felt threatened". I told her the phone call was being recorded and she kept acting like someone was killing her! Good for me as I took it to my attorney and currently they are intiating action against the "legal assistants" & Mr. Heckler for unfair debt collection procedures. Funny thing is, I still do not know what the call was about as none would say on a recorded line. Plus they kept saying that Mr. Paul Mann had not called my sister &/or sister in law and that I was alledging something that could be called in to court. They then proceeded to hang up so I left things as they were. If they call again, I will again proceed to record their conversations. There is one thing credit collectors don't like - RECORDED CONVERSATIONS!!!! Try it - you will see what I mean. If they were on the up and up, they wouldn't mind their conversations being recorded.
Tell them you will be recording their conversations. They do not like to be recorded.
Be sure you do this at the very moment the receptionist answers the phone, and when the so called "legal assistant" answers. They will then hang up. Unscrupulous "legal assistants" who don't know the law don't like their conversations recorded.
Yes, do not pay or talk to these people any longer. Once the statute of limitations has expired, they cannot collect - period. All you have to do is go to the internet and pull up the Fair Debt Collections Act for more info. If you send a letter - certified/return receipt requested - to the debt collector, stating that you want all communication to "cease and desist" other than in written form. A debt collector has to honor this request. Plus you can state that all telephone calls must cease to your workplace.
Don't do anything! Just send them a certified, return receipt requested letter to "cease & desist" any further communication with you. A debt 20 years old is no longer active, no longer collectable, no longer on your credit report. These people are jerks in the first degree!
