I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING THESE UNWANTED CALLS FOR 3 MONTHS NOW . THAT'S AS LONG AS I HAVE HAD MY PHONE SERVICE .SUPPOSEDLY IT SEEMS THE GENTLEMAN THEY ARE TRYING TO REACH HAD THE SAME PHONE NUMBER AT ONE TIME .INSTEAD OF GOING ON LINE AND LOOKING FOR HIM [AND I DID FIND HIM ON THE INTERNET } THEY WOULD RATHER AGGRAVATE ME TO TEARS . WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INVASION OF MY PRIVACY ??? IT IS CALLED HARRASSMENT I DON'T HAVE ANY DEBT .
Yes, this is BYL. The are a debt collector. They buy debt from other companies. I did not pay the debt because of a dispute about the validity. They wrote it off and then sold the debt to BYL. I explained to BYL what happened and that they cannot collect on a debt that has already been written off. They continue to call almost everyday. When they answering machine picks up, the leave a message, "This message is for Debra ____. If you are not Debra _____, please hang up. If you are Debra ______ please listen to this privately......." they are not allowed to leave any such message on an answering machine. It is against the law in Pennsylvania. It is also against the law to contact by any means more than one time in any 7 days. It is also a federal law that you cannot misrepresent yourself on caller id. For instance, if it would show up on caller id for BYL as let's say, Smith Insurance Agency, that is misrepresentation. I have obtained an attorney and will be going after them. Attorneys that deal with this sort of illegal debt collection practices do not charge you anything. Their fee is paid by the creditor, your debt is wiped out (cannot even be put on your credit), and you can get up to $1,000.
hi Debra...good for you sue the [***] off the collection company...unfortunately they can try to collect after the debt is wrote off..everything else you say is true sue them baby
Actually, I'm an accountant and understand debt collection practices VERY well in my state. If a debt is written off by a company, they've already received the value of the written off amount as a deduction in their taxes. Since they already did receive those benefits, the act of them trying to collect a second time, is illegal.
