Got a call regarding winning a 2013 Dodge Durango and three other prizes. Asked to return call to 886-288-2780, did and got voice mail of Bill Russell, Prize Director. Caller ID had 610-637-9697, Cell. Didn't enter anything but was curious, left message, no return call.
`Also got a call on 051813 stating I won a 2013 Dodge Durango. I was to call 866-288-2780. Caller ID showed 610-637-9697 was the number dialed. Caller stated he was Tim Patterson. He said I entered a contest either online or at a local mall. He also indicated that paperwork was mailed to me and they hadn't received a reply. I never got anything in the mail. This is a scam!!!
Fri. 1:23 PM 17 May 2013 I too received a call from a number that my phone provider's voice mail service identified as 610-637-9697. The message was mostly garbled and unintelligible - a woman talking very fast and in a low voice, and not enunciating very clearly. It seemed to involve a vehicle prize of some kind from an on-line contest I entered (likely bogus right there !). The toll-free number to call back *sounded* like 218-688-2280 - like I said it was very garbled ! Sorry honey, I ain't gonna be calling you back if that's the best you can do.
P.S. - I'm all in favor of summary execution at high noon in the county courthouse square for all these types of people !!!
You really expect scammers to honor the Do Not Call list? They only callers who actually do honor it are legitimate businesses and even they sometimes make mistakes. Since the Do Not Call list only applies to sales calls, only companies you have not done business with in the last 18 months are required to honor it. So besides scammers and other criminals, you can get calls from political organizations, surveys with no sales involved, charities, collection agencies plus any company you currently do business with and their contractors or subsidiaries. We may not like all the exceptions but that is the current form of the law. The good news is that many of the allowed callers will place you on their internal Do Not Call list when you ask leaving most unsolicited calls falling into the scammer category.
