Honestly, I think the program "cops for kids safety" is great, but I'm afraid to give any financial information through the phone. The world that we now live in is full of scams. And telephone scams are the most common types. I just wonder why don't they provide any place in their website of "cops for kids safety" where we can donate money through the website. They can even provide the payment method using secure method such as paypal. Besides, it is easier for people to spread the news by email/facebook/etc., if this donation can be made online.
This number calls *every day* sometimes up to 3 times a day. They've called as early as 8 am, and as late as 9:30 pm. If you answer, it just sits silent for a minute, then you get that dropped call noise. Never anyone there, ever, I'd know, I've answered it at least 20 times. If you leave it, no message is left on the machine.
My experience is that this is a phone phishing expedition to get information that would compromise your information. I have been harrassed by this number as well.
Call came in during supper hour - of course; young woman asked for me, then for my spouse. When I explained there had been an emergency or her call would have gone to my call screening she disconnected the call and I heard a dial tone.
no "thank you", "sorry to bother you in an emergency".
I assumed it was a company offering to sell me something.
I've received this call quite a few times with no answer at the other side but I got a person (at supper time as usual). It was a young sounding woman who wanted to know if I was Mr.(read last name from a list). I said no. She said "may I know who I am speaking to?" I asked her the same question and she didn't seem to like that but she went into a scripted speech. She claimed to be calling on behalf of the Ottawa police anti-child pornography school education program or some such thing. She seemed somewhat rude, particlarly when I wouldn't agree to a donation even after she asked incredulously "not even to help one child?"
