This number has called my home phone twice today, once this morning and once this evening. Both times they left a message, claiming that legal actions were being taken against me or my family? They didn't specify as to who they were pressing charges against. The message was obviously recorded and was initially cut off at the beginning due to our answering machine's message. We live in outside of the Ottawa area and do not normally get calls from that there. Hopefully no one else falls for this very obvious attempt at scamming.
Left message stating that a legal case has been registered against my name and that I will bear the consequences if I do not contact them. (Lady called) me in Toronto on my landline. Doesn't say who the message is for though?
There has also been an Officer Parker (leaves different #'s). He's been reported. Once I grabbed the phone when I recognized the number and said the RCMP would be sent to his home. HE HUNG UP ON ME. SCAMMERS...I do not owe $$$'s to the C.R.A. and they would send a letter first if one did. Sad, some people take it seriously and hand out CR and Banking information.
Received a phone call from 613-927-9651 20 minutes ago. Used my name because it is listed in the phone book. The lady purported to be a CRA agent informing me that a legal action for tax fraud has been registered against me -- yada, yada, yada. Used certain hot-button terms that would supposedly induce panic, or at least anxiety, but without knowledge of how silly they sounded (e.g. wanted to know the name of my "criminal lawyer" . . . I do know a couple of lawyers, but to my knowledge none of them are "criminals"). She had a slight accent that might have been Hindi or francophone, but the most telling clues were: 1) there was a delay of several seconds before she picked up the call and a bit of verbal fumbling when she did (someone who is calling only you directly from a government agency would be on the line right away; and 2) there were many conversations audible in the background, which meant that it was coming from a "boiler room" call center (CRA agents would be calling from a quiet office, not a big echoing room). I told her to "give it up" and hung up, but next time I might string them along and tell them I don't know any criminal lawyers, but there's this guy named Guido who owes me a favor, and I'll tell him to find out where they are and pay them a visit . . . ;-)
