When the debt is decades old and has not been pursued by the lender for such a significant period then it is really not ethical for a scavenger collector to pursue the alleged debtor after the statute of limitations has long been expired. Especially when, in many states, making a payment of any sort to these people, will restart the statute of limitations. After the SOL has passed they no longer legally owe the money. Go sell the "ethics" line to a group of sharks who eat each other.

To accuse someone of thinking they could attend college for free and get a job with their degree is asinine to say the least... Nobody thinks they're going to college for free, unless they're lucky enough to have a full ride scholarship. The utter stupidity of your accusation defies every aspect of logic and reason that a normal intelligent human being would apply when judging someone (which you shouldn't do on the internet anyway, but you earned it) who is actually qualified enough to have attended college or university in the first place.

Borrowing money to get an education which you are told all your life is how you're going to get a good job and then pay back that education, build good credit and buy a house, etc.... that is not the same as borrowing money to buy a car morons. Nobody tells you that buying that car is going to get you a better job, house, whatever, it's just your choice to buy a car and you have to pay for it. Education is different. Someone tells that getting this education for tens of thousands of dollars is going to lead to a better job, better pay, better life, etc. Well in case you've had your head under a rock for the last 30 years... the AMERICAN DREAM ISN'T REALITY FOR ANYONE ANYMORE. GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK F*ING SKULLS. THE WORLD HAS CHANGED. THE SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK THE SAME WAY. GET A F*KING CLUE.
Stop telling lies about what a college degree will do for you, and kids will stop getting loans they'll never be able to pay back. If there was a drug out there labeled "take this and you'll be smarter, get a better job, get paid more" do you think people would take it? Abso-f*ing-lutely they would. But there's a really good reason the government restricts labels on things we ingest into our body. Education should be exactly the same way, but yet the government wants you to believe it's the miracle drug to a better life. Does it work for some people? Sure. So does marijuana.

OR... you're young and stupid and everything in your life has been handed to you on a silver platter. unfortunately student loads are not protected by statute of limitations similar to income taxes. they don't go away.
Wish it was, because I'm 30k in the hole with student loans.
