A woman who spoke quickly and with an accent called. The only three things I understood on her message were my brother's name, the return phone number and that she had confidential information to give. My brother has had no need to use me as a financial reference so I would assume they just googled his name and somewhere it said we were related. I googled their website (fairfax servicing) and along with spelling and grammar errors, it claims they legally use "questionable tactics" to "skip trace" people who have defaulted on a loan etc. Don't assume your relative has used you as a reference. They are using embarrassing tactics to squirm a person into contacting them. Is this legal? Maybe since they left a message that they had "confidential information" to give my brother and it wasn't about collecting money (which IS illegal) it flies, however, leaving the name of the company and the return phone number of a collection agency....Well.... Not sure that is legal. In the meantime, I'm not telling my brother AND I'm blocking their phone number. I will not let them harrass my brother this way.
