It is actually scammers reporting themselves as from Microsoft. I answered one today from another # - 229-555-0111. I knew where the rest of the B.S. spiel was going so I lit into this a-hole calling him a lying pos and suggesting a few things he could do to himself. It was hilarious!! I got him p.o.'d enough that he actually called me back on another # within seconds, which caller ID'd as Ma. Directory Assistance 617-555-0147!! He was cursing me and going nuts while I was laughing my azz off!! If he's wasting time calling me he isn't able to scam someone that has no clue.
Are these people that stupid that they don't think anyone looks at their caller I.D.? Look at your caller ID people and THINK when you answer any calls. Why would Microsoft be calling from a phone company line?!! And if as Barbara reported he wanted to send someone over, boy have I got a nasty surprise for them and acres of woods to bury them in. Hah!! They're at some foreign call center running these scams and spoofing phone #'s. "light" 'em up and have fun with it; see how mad you can get them.
received a call today from this number - directory assistance - left a message and ask what the **** I thought I was doing!!! Then rambled off in his foreign tongue!! WTF -
Got a call from this # and another # of 855-566-7074 on the same day sounding like the same guy. I copied and pasted what I said under the other # here:
Guy with Indian accent called and it was the 2nd time today. Said he was with tech support for Microsoft and his name was Mark Thompson. Yeah right....he wasn't even from this country. Wanted me to get my computer. I asked him how he got our number. He said when we bought a new computer (which we have never done-always buy from friends) we entered this number (and we have only given this # to family, it is new). I played along and got an employee # of 18323047049 & pretended I messed it up writing it down and asked for him to repeat it, he did. He then wanted me to have my computer out....so I said "Oh wait....I just realized my husband took it with him to work. I probably have to call you back." He wants me to call him back. Yeah right. Has to be a scam. Do not give them any information that isnt vague. Do not trust these people and get put on the do not call list. You can register online and it is a .gov website. I cannot have our landline used as much because we will have a newborn son soon who will need to sleep at weird times and cannot be woken up! If it continues then I will just have fun with them and waste their time without giving out info.

The language is odd -- "hope to hear from you" and "thanks" just sound wrong. What is a vash number? Why is the callback number different from the number making the call, not to mention that caller ID says "DIR ASST MA." Given that they are impersonating a federal branch of government, I would think this is illegal and prosecutable.
