Portfolio Recovery calling again! I have 12 different "junk" folders each containing 10 numbers. Cell is set to block each number in each folder. They sued me in 2008 and I demanded a jury trial. They farted around till 2012 and then the judge dismissed the suit for lack of prosecution. They had no proof that I made the debts, they had no chain of ownership and most importantly when forced to provide "any" documentation they had, the debts being sued for were SOL (statute of limitations or [***] out of luck however you prefer ;) ) They still call me trying to get me to acknowledge that the debt might have been mine, sorry but not biting that hook. If I choose to answer one of their calls I refer them to their attorney that sued me and lost......funny they don't even know his/her name. Their records are so poor they haven't got even a little clue. Druggies, drunks, thieves and liars are all they hire, and they go through those like the proverbial [***] through a goose.
I found a way to get them to stop calling. After over a year of them (Portfolio Recovery) calling, over a year's worth of blocked numbers, one day I answered an unrecognized number, but I answered it with a twist: "Dominos Pizza, is this for take out or delivery?" They hung up and I have never *knock on wood* received a call from them again, and that was 10 months ago. I'm thinking because I came across as a business, they may have removed my name from their call list..?? ..
I logged on here to spread the word. I hope it works for others as it has seemed to have worked for me.
Is not that they're like many other low life debt collectors out there, these guys actually are among the more professional debt collectors - hard to believe, isn't it? However because they buy leads and debt in bulk, they acquire old and statute expired debt, right along with legitimate ones. Unfortunately is not going to help their bottom line to try to figure which is which, so they go after all of them. It gets nasty when they work an account for a while and there is no pay off. At that point for all their grand standings, their agents act no different that any other low life debt collector. And no - they will not listen to any arguments about the debt is old, paid off, or not yours. All they want is some money (10 to 30 cents on the dollar) so they can get the supervisors off their back and maybe get a bonus. This company is a big one so they know how to get around federal rules. If you want to get them off of you, go through your state's authorities.
