I hate to burst your bubble, but Portfolio has been sued successfully more times than I can count. Most people are like you, and never check their rights. You might want to start keeping track of their calls and contact an attorney in your area who sues fraudulent debt collectors. I have already won once against Portfolio, and am here keeping track of numbers because the morons are back at it again, and I'll probably have them back in court again within eight months. What's funny is that last time and this time, the 'debt' never existed; the first I paid off well over ten years ago, and this time it's an account that went 90+ past due because of a dispute I had with the company, and I was told I was credited back at the time. Portfolio are a pack of bottom-feeders. If they're screwing with you, take it to court.
