Had my street address, asked for me to provide the rest and when I asked fir their number for me to call them back- to confirm I am speaking with the NY police dept- they disconnected. I hear silence then disconnect when I called the number.
Answered and caller identifies self as NY State Police Chief's Benevolent Association. He talks over you, completing spiel which ends in request for donation. Request comes with "you sound like a nice woman, can we count on you to support our programs?" When I wasn't so nice in requesting to be removed from their list, he hung up.
This is not a real number. They pretend to be the police and ask you to donate to their training programs. They act very friendly, then skillfully pretend to have the wrong address... so you give your correct address. They will mail you a form to fill out payment information and send back. **** SCAM **** This has been confirmed by looking the number up online and then calling the police department to confirm. This is not their number and this is AGAIN a scam. If you call the number back it says it's a non working number.
Please make sure you're warning your family, especially elders, about theses scams. Always assume a number you don't know, a number that won't leave voicemails, and a number that is asking for $ OR pretending to be a family member in serious and 'secret' trouble is a scam.
