the guy kept calling me by my former last name from a long time ago. Then he said hes calling for the Organization for Police Officers. I said heres no such thing, and he said it was an IRS non-profit org. He kept trying to get me to acknowledge that I was the person he was looking for, I wouldnt confirm and hung up. He spoke SO fast too, like he wanted to sound official and well versed so I wouldnt understand the bullcrap he spewed
This was a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) asking for donations for the NYS Faternal Order of Police (FOP)... this should not be confused with any PBA (Police Benevolent Association) organizations in NYS. Be aware that PBAs do not practice calling individuals for donations, they hold fund raisers in their respective towns to generate donations. This is a SCAM... do not fall for it. I asked the caller how he got my number and he claimed it came from the Government/State, citing that NYS NPOs are provided with information about NYS residents so they can solicit donations (THIS IS NOT TRUE), but he wouldn't specify which entity of government provided him with my information. I asked him to remove me from his call list and he hung up.
