This is a Debt collector. I called back from a different number after they called and left no message. The recording said, "Thank you for calling us back. I will connect you to an account manager." Then a long pause, "For Legal purposes i must inform you that this is to collect a debt and all calls will be recorded and monitored. Now please hold while i connect you."
I also received a call and it sounded like a recording. I said, "hello", and after a pause the women said, "yes, sorry to have disturbed you." Then the call was disconnected.
Seemed to be a robo caller, until I said something then it repeatedly said "Hello" then transferred to a live person. The woman was saying she is from the National Insurance Institute, a non-profit, with information regarding new auto insurance laws of 2014. I asked what type of laws, federal, state, local. She said she was new and didn't know. I asked if they had a website, nope. I asked where she was calling from, she said she couldn't tell me. She asked for my name and current auto insurance. I continued you quiz her with was this a robo-dialed number, nope she had to manually dial it (another lie). She was very courteous, but she wasn't going to get any info from me. Clearly a scam, I tried to annoy her with my endless questions.
The number was reported as being from Union, MO where I have relatives. But they hung up when I answered. Was not any of my relatives. Not sure why they called me.
This number showed up on my WORK phone caller ID. I did not recognize it, so did not answer it. I immediately went on-line to see if it was a scam and based on the prior comments, it is.
