I don't see any reports on this yet but I've now gotten a rash of 555 calls
After years and still lacking a functioning DoNotCall effort all that is left is to
screw with them, if you do get a person start telling stories, make odd
requests, ask them strange questions, have some fun.
Another 555 call. No message left.
I too thought 555 was reserved for movies, etc.
We simply do not pick up a call if we can't identify it and know it is an accepted caller.
They called and said they were getting bad signals from my computer and I might have a virus. All of them have foreign accents and cannot verify who they are. They are argumentative. Don't pick up these calls.
This is our 8th "dir asst" call this week. Two calls per day.
It's the very old and very tired Microsoft windows "you have a virus" scam call from India!
I was out when they called - of course, no message was left.
Damnit - I was waiting for their next call and was going to "play along" with them to eff with them.
Maybe next call???
About 3 years ago they called with the usual "you have a virus" crap/scam and I played the part so well, I was transferred to a Tier 2 "supervisor." When the "supervisor" caught on to me, he started screaming and cursing at me! I nearly dropped the phone I was laughing so hard. Can't wait for the next call.
BTW - 555 prefix is not typically used in the USA. It's an internal prefix for the phone companies. You can call 555-1212 for information (411) in most area codes.
