Got a phone call twice in the pass 2 days saying they are from the federal government and I have been selected to receive $9,000 because each year the federal government gives away grant money to those who have never been arrested or filed bankrupcy before. But, if it was free money they wouldn't be asking me to load $2,000 on a green dot card and once they receive the $2,000 they will release the $9,000 into my bank account...like really sir who does that? then I was told if I registered my name with the federal reserve bank that I won't have to send any money to anyone and the money will automatically be placed in my account within the next 30 mins just give them my bank info...when I said send it by check in the mail they hung up but keep on calling back
I was receiving calls from this number and about 30 others 10 - 15 times per day over a 30 day period. Same/similar in that they say they are with a federal agency and I am either due money or I am being sued by the IRS. Some of the numbers I will call right back and they are "no longer in service" or I get a recording that all representatives are busy, leave my name and number for a call back, which I don't do.
Nobody worth talking to calls me on my landline. I have started answering the phone in a recording-like voice with: "The number you are calling from has been reported under the Tele-communications Fraud Act. Please hold for the next available agent to answer questions regarding the nature of your business. You are hereby advised that all calls are being recorded and traced. " I rarely ever get past the first sentence before the caller hangs up and I've never had anyone stay on after the last sentence. The calls have decreased significantly in number and frequency to about 2 per day and always from numbers outside my local area code.
