They automated call said there was a warrant out for my arrest, which is ludicrous. It's a NY #, which doesn't make sense b/c I'm in Colorado. Also, I'm on probation, so my P.O. would've already had me come in/arrested if this were the case. Idiots.
It is definitely a scam call, an attempt to scare you into giving out personal and sensitive information such as your social security number, birth date and address. This information is valuable on the black market where it will be used to open accounts in your name. The IRS will always attempt to contact you several times by certified mail before further measures are taken. If you owe back taxes or have failed to timely file returns, we will always work with you. Don't be afraid to call the IRS. Look up your local IRS office online. Never use the number left on your voice mail unless you truly know the caller and have an established relationship with them.
