Haines is actually a "Lookup" telephone service in Ohio that for a fee provides phone numbers, addresses, and reverse phone number services for corporate (usually investigative or research depts) entities.
Said he was going to be in the neighborhood to look at an elderly person's driveway and wanted to come by my house. I hung up on him. I have an unlisted number and am on the 'Do Not Call List'.
Haines & Company, Inc (http://www.haines.com/) does provide lookup service from its database, but it is more than just a telephone lookup service. It is an 80 year old direct marketing company with a wide range of marketing services for large national businesses, small local businesses, non profits - and "information services" including direct mail lists, 'first contact' lists for new home owners (and new phone numbers) - and marketing services including direct mail service, internet marketing, etc. And notably for this phone number - local calling services.
I have had multiple local contractors call me via this number, and was explicitly told that they were using a "Haines List". Contact Haines and request to be removed from all of their lists. Three months later, I am still getting an occasional call, but I have the number blocked so I am no longer building a list of companies using the service. I got tired of explaining to callers that they were way down a long list of callers that I already declined to deal with. The ones I talked to seem to be small businessmen just trying to get work - but this is a rotten way to go about that.
I got a call at 1252 on 19 November 2015 from this number, which has no CNAM listing. When answered, there was nobody there. Typical robo-call systems pre-dial their next victim and dump the call after a few seconds if no human is available to take it. What was different in this case is that 650-762-9508 is a Google Voice phone number - it answers, asks for your name, then connects you through to Reality Builders Inc. - a live person! I asked them if they would like a free quote on some remodeling, and they hung up on me.
