People, remember, when it comes to debt collectors the following applies:
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Now, from the very first phone call where they have talked to you, or if they have left a message, this is what they must do next:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

This is a scam call. The number that they called from was from a Landline in Laredo, TX to call to an office in Minn. I had my neighbor, who is an Attorney, call this number on my behalf, and they just hung up on her.
Just got a call from this number stating they been trying to reach me and if I return the call back to handle the issue that legal actions will be taken. First they called from a different number completely and than in the recording gave a different number as well not even in the same area code. Didn't leave a company name or anything.
Same thing here. Caller ID said J Munga 651-294-6069. Left threatening message like others have received and said to call 817-717-3749. Anybody who uses a fake caller ID will get nothing from me but a hangup or if I have more time, a time wasting conversation from me.
