I WORK for SunTrust and know that we do not solicit calls and ask for SSN. This scammer uses a local number to get your attention. When in doubt, DO NOT GIVE ANYONE YOUR SSN. Instead, call the source directly (in this case, 1-800-SUNTRUST)....
WARNING! THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM. I received the text message stating that the call was coming from SunTrust Bank and telling my that my security information may have been compromised at a merchant's location and I could not use my credit cards until I telephoned them back and provided the necessary information. Since I have NEVER had any dealings with SunTrust Bank, I was immediately on the alert. I called back and the automated voice repeated the original message and then asked me to enter my Social Security Number for faster service. I entered the numbers for "F*CK YOU!!". At that point in time, the automated voice asked me for my date of birth. I hung up having confirmed that the message is the work of an IDENTITY SCAMMER seeking suckers to prey upon.
