I received a text message: "Hello there, how are u doing today? I like to know your availability days in July." I did not respond. I'm also a photographer, and presumably they found my number via google.
And based on the description BJ gave (above) that's a standard scam. We pay more, you send the difference back, and then the original payment (whether check, paypal, etc) turns out to be fraudulent and it bounces, and you're out whatever you "refunded" to them.
