This is the phone number of a Craigslist scammer. Whoever it is, s/he is sending a check to my representative, Ken Paxton in Austin, Texas. I wonder what Mr. Paxton will do with someone who sends fake checks to the Texas State Attorney General? Jail time? That would be nice.

What if the scammer is putting your name on those checks as the source of the fake check?
You might have to contact your representative about this scam, it's the first I have heard of it.
No matter what name is the source on the fake check, it is mail fraud and the USPS has its own law enforcement investigators.
Do you mean they might also be trying to steal my identity? They would have to know my name first, wouldn't they?
What do you mean this is the first you've heard of it? Do you mean you have never heard of CraIgslist scams? You've got some catching up to do! And don't place any ads on Craigslist before you do!
I looked up this phone number (682-628-4499) and it originates in Alvarado, Texas. However, the "check" was mailed by Certified Mail from Tyler, Texas, which is approximately 125 miles away. There is no way this scammer drove 125 miles to mail a check. There must be a group of people making these calls, then there is a point person in Tyler who is going to the Post Office to deposit the outgoing mail.
Something else to add, is that these scammers have their texts saved and they simply try to send the correct text at certain points in the interaction. This is why their texts are all messed-up and don't make sense; they can't keep track of who they are texting. This is also why scammers from Los Angeles to Houston to Alvarado, Texas, all have the exact same text. No matter what you are trying to sell on Craigslist (in my case, it is a piano), the scammer almost always asks about the "tools" you have for sale.
Since the scammer texted me on June 8, I have ignored all following texts, which come daily. Today, June 15, 2015, the scammer acted tough and threatened me (among other things, they're going to turn me in to the CIA! lol). I was was trying to concentrate on other things, and became fed up with being bothered by this scammer. This was the last straw. I texted back to leave me alone, then I went and filed online with the FBI, the FTC and the Texas State Attorney General. Tomorrow, during working hours, I will call the Tyler, Texas, Post Office to let them know that criminals are mailing fake checks through their post office facilities. I also have the phone number for the Alvarado, Texas, Police...and I am angry enough to let them know that there is a criminal in their community who is threatening innocent women over the phone.
