The are laws. But Indian and Pakistani scammer/extortionists ignore them. Invest in a call blocker and do NOT pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.
Literally the same thing just happened to me said they hope i cooperate fully. I picked up the phone and asked who is this, and its a recording not a real person
