Caller said she was calling in regard to our VA loan. When told we prefer to receive information through the mail due to scams she started saying that she just wanted me to listen because of some veterans act and she had vital information. I stated that the VA usually communicates via letter and she said something about large call(?) volume or something. When I expressed concern over whether she was who she claimed to be she told me to check caller id and look at her phone number. I asked where she was calling from and she said Scottsdale. I said it came up with an area code from GA. She said they have offices all over. I asked if this info pertained to refinancing our VA loan and she said yes and no. She said that they had saved veterans a couple of hundred dollars a month on their mortgages by making sure they had the best interest rate. I refused to listen her sales pitch and hung up. I looked up Veterans First and found references to organizations in AZ and CA that deal with veterans issues regarding women and housing homeless veterans. A group called Veterans First was investigated in 2002 by a FL congressman for shady practices involving veterans pensions. Not sure if she was from any of these groups. It irritates me that they think vets are too stupid to research interest rates and choose wisely. Also, her pushy manner makes me think that they are money grubbers and not altruistic defenders of veteran's interests as alluded.
