Same person (Brian Smith) and same threats about due payday loans. Seems to know bits and pieces of my past payday loans I am or have paid off. This was all by email...no direct call. Tried to convince me (by email) to settle a potential 13,500.00 debt(not even near what is owed) down to 944.00 right away and avoid being criminally charged.
Several of the parts of the email, are just not how an attorney (which he claims to be) should conduct themselves. Also, parts of the message have such general information that could be easily associated to my debt situation or anyone's , so I can see how one would be concerned that it might be a genuine message. However, stop and think, would an attorney send an message to you like this in email format?...the answer is no...at least not one whom is legitimate anyway. They would submit a certified letter stating what they have tried to do and perhaps proceed with how they have no recourse but to move forward with legal steps. You would also be given a period to respond....not an immediate settlement demand in a exact amount without breakdown of the calculation. No...I my feel is that this is scam. I question how they are getting the information, but if like me, you have been involved with payday loans off as well as online...chances are your information has been passed around. Best to (like I did) change things and tighten up your records.
I received an email from a Brian Smith on June 15th 2015. It had this phone number-713-8938594. I did not call it. It was a threathening email. He said I was going to be arrested and all kinds of bad things. This has to be a scam. I do not know what he is talking about.
