I received call on my landline from Liang, Liying, no voicemail. Interesting fact: from my Cell # I've made inquiries about car donations to KERA (the PBS station) and carwizard which handles many 501 c 3 charities' car donations, allegedly. Within half a business day I received this call on a phone number I did not divulge.
Probably an information aggregator who sold your (and mine) contact information, who cross-referenced other contact information already available. Could still be a Scammer, nonetheless. I agree with blocking as the only viable solution. My info is on every possible "do not contact" list available, but sometimes, like with KERA, you have to opt-out after the fact. Just found that out. Guess you end up donating to them "one way or another."
Call received at 11:36 am on 08/0/8, from Liang, Living. Did not answer. VM requesting donation of cars, real estate, etc for veterans & soldiers. SCAM being generated from a real estate office in Houston TX. DO NOT Donate anything to these people and report any calls associated with this number or name.
Received call from this number, same Liang, Living caller id.
Recorded message asking for donations for veterans.
I asked for information as to overhead operating costs, would not provide any information to me he knew my type, if I wanted to know I could look it up on the internet.
A scam waiting to fleece someone and take financial support away from legitimate organizations attempting to assist our veterans and soldiers.
If they are legitimate they need to be able to provide verifiable financial information upon request.
BTW, if he knew my "type" he should have known I am a veteran.
I find some of the remarks posted about these ‘faux telemarketer calls’ amusing. I put together a software program that has logged over 380 of these annoyance calls since 2012. Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will get another of these calls. Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid and passed it on. Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a person may be there on the follow up calls. If you have the capability to ‘block’ the number that called – that is the best action. If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously. If you really want to block them – there is reasonably priced software that a layman can install. Of the 380 calls I’ve blocked, only 16 have been in the last 6 months. So the message is simple – blocking works….
