Rec'd a message this morning (Oct. 20, 2014) saying I had a court case against me and that I would be arrested at my physical address or place of work. Called the number back and told them they had a wrong # and asked where they were at and was told California and then they hung up on me. Called right back and asked for their name and business name, fellow (w/foreign accent) mumbled some type of law firm and when I told him what my initial message said he replied, "You will be arrested any minute now". I told him that would be hard to do since I was in Florida and asked what kind of scam this was. He then said "Go f*** yourself lady"......

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
I received 2 calls from 2 different numbers stating there is a case against me and I will be arrested at my residence or place of employment. I am a law abiding citizen and I know there is no case against me. I called the Attorney General's office in Portland, OR and they said it's a scam to scare people into paying money to have the charges dropped. There was this number and 714-352-0218. The first call scared the sh*# out of me, but this one did not. I was advised to document everything just in case it is needed later.
This number called me and twice I got a hold of them. They kept asking me if I had a legal case in the state of CA, I've never even been to the state. Unfortunately for them they've reached someone who's SO works for the local PD.
received this call via voice mail concerning a legal matter (a recorded message) tried returning the call multiple times and the caller was on the phone per a recorded message. Never been to California, don't owe anyone anything, my son is a cop, I live in a very small community, messaged them back and will see what happens from there.
