I got a rather strange phone call from this phone number requesting I call back about some US Treasury issue. Not sure what this is about, but with so many scams out there, I'm not about to call this number. It was a pre-recorded message from a Steve Martin with an East-Indian accent.

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
