As far as I know she does not have any past credit card debt. Her comment to me was she never had good enough credit to get approved. He called me again today, but left a voice mail. In the message he says "for NSF activity for passing checks across State lines and if we don't call by 2pm today to settle up he will turn it over to the State of Texas". In person he says "I'm sorry it is for malicious attempt to fraud a bank because she maxed out her card and intentionally didn't pay it". Then he says "I know she was younger then and probably didn't know what she was doing. If you can pay the balance to us we can get this cleared".
When I told him to mail her something in writing as this type of thing does not happen by phone his comment was "good luck with that".
I'm pretty sure this is a scam and I am not answer more of his calls.
Well they finally left a message - female voice - Paperwork has "crossed his desk" for a decision to be made on my behalf based on my case notes. Before he has to make a decision on my behalf he would like to have the opportunity to discuss the consequences of my case file.
I got a call today 10/1/2015 from this number, female voice said call back. I spoke with him and he said i would be arrested for something i had nothing to do with, i never had an account at that bank nor did i get a check in loan. I have had identity thief before that same year and the guy called my a liar. I have paperwork to prove it and he still called me a liar.
Be are careful this probably a scam never give money With out going to your bank ans the cops there so many scams out here. Us common sense don't fall for there scared tat is
Total scam. Bank fraud (I suppose that it what someone is accusing you of) is a crime and is handled by local law enforcement. If you were suspected of committing that sort of a crime you'd have already been interviewed by law enforcement on a face-to-face basis. Debt collectors have nothing to do with law enforcement and have no influence on LE at all. This is just a scam to try to scare you into paying them something. Don't fall for it. Ignore and block the calls.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
