Did they follow through with their threat? I'm getting calls from them but it seems like a scam. It was a real debt i had but all of their actions scream scam artist.
Looks like just another debt scammer from Western New York. Watch out for these people. They have a habit of impersonating a police officer. This is unlawful under the federal rules regarding debt collection.
Make a complaint to the New York Secretary of State or whatever agency handles debt collectors.
Also report them here:
See: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Don't talk to them, don't return their calls and block their number. If they have a valid debt they are supposed to send you a debt validation letter by US Mail. No letter, not consideration of any payment. Of course, they won't send one.
If they keep calling you tell them you will file a police report for extortion.

Received a call/ message from 716-242-5269. Woman said her name was Erica Shaw. She said she was a hired mediator attempting to verify the validity of a legal claim being made against me. She stressed the urgency of a return phone call because she had documents that were ready to be served on me, in my city, within 48Hrs.
• Phone call was from New York
• I don't live in New York
• I don't live in the city she claims to be sending a summons to.
• She named two, possible, different people, none of which are me.
Wow. Should I call Erica back and tell her to go 'eff herself? Should I point out that the difference between a Lawyer and a Liar is...well, there is no difference!
She also added that "according to public and court records, this seems out of character for you" and closed her message out with an "Ok, Hon?" How personable of her.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
