I have been called at least 5 times by this same 'Emily' which is a robo-generated call. This isn't a live person on the other end and the best thing to do is hang up and try to block that phone number.
I agree with most of what you said. However, I'm not so sure that the problem should be dumped only in the laps of the Telephone providers alone. These are criminals we're dealing with here, and as such, should be dealt with by the proper authorities, such as local law enforcement investigators, all the way on up to the FCC and the FBI. They don't need to catch them all, they only need to go after and prosecute a few... this will be enough to set an example to the rest. The infrastructure of the surveillance state is already in place and fully operational, so all it would take is for them to direct their efforts towards finding and identifying these culprits, rather than spying on innocent citizens for no good reason at all. The Telephone providers need only to fully cooperate with law enforcement investigators. I used to work in corporate security for a major banking institution, and we did all the heavy lifting as far as collecting evidence and building cases, only to hand it all over to law enforcement, or FBI, and then they simply swooped down on the criminals involved and took them into custody and handed our case over to the judges and the lawyers. These laws should be enforced, but it takes cooperation by all involved. We should be using all the tools and technology we have at our disposal to put a stop to it once and for all. Unsolicited sales calls, robo-calls, scammers, spoofed numbers... they are all violating laws in various ways and all of it has to stop. Lets not waste time and effort on ineffective solutions, when we already have much more effective ways on hand that we aren't even utilizing... WHY? I think we all deserve an answer. I'm sure you would agree.
